RV Park Investments

A recreational vehicle park (RV park) or caravan park is the equivalent of a hotel for people with recreational vehicles. They provide a place to park the vehicle for overnight or several days. They are also referred to as campgrounds, though a true campground also provides facilities for tent camping; many facilities calling themselves "RV parks" also offer tent camping or cabins with limited facilities.

Typical Services of an RV Park

While not all RV-Parks offer the same services, you will typically find these being offered: A central building to meet others that may also offer some of the listed services, Swimming pool, Spa, AC power hookup usually rated by capacity like 20, 30 or 50 Amp, Cable TV hookup, Telephone connections, BBQ area, Picnic tables, Gift shop, Convenience store, Laundry, Showers, Dump Station, Sewer hookups, Restrooms, Wi-Fi, and Exercise equipment

RV parks range from rustic facilities with no or limited hookups, as often found in state/provincial parks and national parks, to luxury resorts with amenities that rival fine hotels. Some high-end resorts restrict the type of RV that can stay to motor homes of a certain length or longer, and/or newer than a certain year. Most RV parks are open to all comers and rent spaces on a nightly or weekly basis, much like a motel or hotel. A few parks operate on a time-share basis.

While most RV parks are independent or operated by a government entity, there are some chains in North America. KOA Campgrounds is the largest and best-known, while Yogi Bear's Jelly-Stone Park Campgrounds is another well-known chain. While not technically a chain, Good Sam Parks are paid endorsements by the Good Sam Club, a commercial firm that sells membership association that is, to a certain extent, for campers what the American Automobile Association is for travelers in general. (Some Good Sam Parks are also part of chains like KOA or Yogi Bear.) Listings of RV parks can be found in several printed directories; the best known are the annual tomes by Woodall's and Trailer Life Magazine.

RV lifestyle

The RV Lifestyle (RV stands for recreational vehicle) is made up of primarily retired people and those interested in traveling and camping rather than living in one location. Many of these people are called snowbirds. They travel south during the winter months in their RV and return in spring. This is also known as snow-birding. Those who live in an RV are known as full timers and live H.O.W. (Houses On Wheels) in comparison to those who live primarily in a house and are known as slabbers or part-timers. There is another sub culture of the RV lifestyle known as work-amperes, these are people that work at the campgrounds / RV parks they stay at for site and perks. You can learn more about this kind of life style by reading journals of those who travel in RVs. One such journal shows what it is like to travel then boon-dock each night. Another journal tells what it's like to combine working full time while living nearby in a RV resort.

In Australia these retired travelers are called "grey nomads". They usually travel north in winter in their RVs to catch the warmer weather and return south for spring and summer, The Grey Nomads. Some "grey nomads" have sold their homes choosing to travel on a continuous basis

While many RV’ers may be retirees, other individuals and families are choosing RV travel as a way to see parts of the world while maintaining their incomes via technology available from the RV (such as internet, phone, fax, etc.) These individuals are called NuNomads and gather at a web-based community called Nu-Nomad some choose to stay in Wal-Mart car parks to save money. Otherwise known as RV friendly Wal-Marts (But ask the store manager before you do this).

There is a growing community of Burners (Burning Man participants) who have taken recreational vehicles and modified them so as to fit their beliefs. The conversion of old school buses to this end is popular. A sub-culture are taking old diesel vehicles and using bio-diesel in them, in order to be more environmentally friendly.
